Producing a mood board on clouds has been a great starting point for brain storming and developing ideas, as I'm able to visualise different colours, forms, moods and meanings of what clouds could possibly be. I havent just focused on clouds, I wanted to think on a larger scale - what do they feel like? what immediately comes to mind? what do clouds mean? where do they come from? I have so many questions regarding clouds as they are such important part of the world, but also so unusual and delicate looking.

Clouds mind map

Plans-3.jpg

By producing a written mind map, I am able to record rough but informative notes on clouds, I find mind maps very helpful during research and planning, as I’m able to have a bit more structure and make links between different ideas and subjects, which will then help me develop even more ideas. I have focused more on climate change as this is an area I am passionate about and believe I will be able to create an expressive, emotional piece with my personal thoughts and feelings towards it. I will incorporate climate change into my work throughout the final major project, but I would also love to go into natural disasters as I'm already feeling inspired.

Here I have created a mood board with images I found online, which will inform my books, the concept is based around climate change and all the horrible aspects  of it - what is happening to the environment, government, how weather is impacted, etc. (outside of the book), then hope, progression and positive energy inside the book - what can be done for climate change, encouragement, etc. This is also reflected in the notes I took after completing the clouds mind map.

 Theme Moodboards

I have created a range of mood boards using several 'British Journal of Photography' magazines, to explore the themes that will be included in my final outcomes. I have experimented with collage techniques learnt from my previous project 'Self and Place', tissue paper, blank ink pen for pattern/mark making, felt shapes, yellow thread to represent maps and an unused photography colour sheet. I was also inspired by works from The Design Museum in London.

Photography and illustrations of place

This task was done to explore place photography and practice with expressive ink illustration, to help me determine a location/style of place for my finished digital piece.

Response to 'cloudy with a chance of meatballs' film/digital collage planning waste weather

I created this digital collage from photos I already had in my camera roll, to represent the film, but to also plan further/ideation

The range of food illustrations/character designs came from my 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' film research. I wanted to experiment with food as that relates to the film, later I will develop other objects such as technology, waste, etc.

I used Procreate to mix the film with weather and dystopia, by producing evil characters. I liked to use simple brushes like 'Baskerville' and 'Syrup' to stay true to my style/resemble cartoons instead of realism. I did add texture layers to the ice cream and the cake to resemble a little bit of their true texture.

Moodboard and designing

(moodbaord includes images from the internet)

To create my fizzy drink character/grasp a style for the rest of the characters, I produced a Coca Cola mood board and illustrations using a purple fine liner to experiment from the object. I then used a chalk brush in Procreate to produce the final style of the characters.

I dedicated these 2 pages to let go and experiment with black felt tip, fine liner and watercolour paints to work with mark making, shapes, line, patterns and colours.

Moodbaord for abstract painting
(images from the internet)

IMG_7603.jpg

IMG_7605.jpg

I was inspired by my uncle, who is a spray painter/painter, to create an abstract painting to express consumerism, waste and weather. I also chose to do this as a response to my sketchbook - presentation, ideas, research, etc.

I will use this mood board to inform the design/plan of my abstract painting.

Digital sketch/plan for abstract painting

On Procreate I used the 'Baskerville' and 'Syrup' brushes to create a basic plan for my abstract painting. The piece should still be random and expressive however, this will give me more preparation and ease when creating the piece.

Pencil sketch/plan for digital outcome

Again, I have created a pencil sketch to prepare for my digital outcome. I will import this into Procreate and illustrate over it. This is the starting point for creating my digital outcome, gives me more preparation.

Also, I struggle with sketching digitally as it's not the same as traditional sketching, I have much more control with pencil and I know i can use more pressure as the pencil sinks into the paper - I don't want to break my iPad pencil.

presentation techniques
(images from the internet)

Photo frames arrangement
IMG_7609.jpg

Using shape, composition, pattern and space, this technique is useful for multiple pieces of artwork as it gives an alternative structure and helps lead the eye to different points. Could the arrangement represent a timeline or story? The different frames also add a variety of colour, shapes, textures and pattern. I love how smaller frames are used beside the larger frames, it gives off a bubble/ floating effect. I definetly want to use a frame for my digital outcome however, I don't think I will use this technique as I don't have multiple digital pieces/ it wouldn't suit my piece.

decorated frame
IMG_7610.jpg

I have used this technique before, by rolling old magazines into strips and sticking them down onto a face shape (this was for our last project, 'Self and Place'.) If I was to use this method, I would use a book, magazine or newspaper that includes weather, waste or consumerism. Otherwise, I could create a pattern or use colours that relate to weather. The pattern/texture reminds me of a garage door, as it resembles the same look/effect. I also really like the contrasting colours, some dark and some light to keep the frame busy.

Printed work stuck to the wall with coloured tape
IMG_7586.jpg

Again, this is a great way to showcase multiple pieces of art, particularly of the same style - see picture on the left for reference. I think this would be a fantastic way to present prints as they have the same texture. The small piece of tape allows you to focus more on the artwork and composition however, it is till an effective but simplistic presentation technique, it reminds me of a large sketchbook page on a wall - it feels more personal.

Canvas with bold text/pattern background
IMG_7617.jpg

I absolutely adore this technique! It is so expressive, free, loud and busy, I believe it would suit my oil painting perfectly. The black and white writing/pattern contrasts well with the colour paintings - allows them to stand out. If I was to use this technique, I would include positive phrases, words or quotes that relate to climate change, waste and consumerism - to motivate people to act on the current situation. This would be done on a large sheet of paper, using black ink/paint.

Hanging canvas from ceiling
IMG_7587.jpg

This technique relates to weather as its a floating canvas up high, which could relate to sky, clouds, rain, etc. It would be more suitable for a larger canvas, as mine is only an A3. An alternative solution would be to have the canvas hang from long rope or wire, and having the wall as a background so it's more visible.

how i intend to present my outcomes

For my digital outcome, I intend to present my work in a decorated black frame using coloured card to create layered triangular shapes in similar/the same colours as my digital piece to avoid any clashing of colours. The shapes will represent waste and how undecided waste is ( waste is not presented in the perfect shape, colour) The frame will then be hung on the wall, as well as a projection of the illustration on the wall (as planned in project proposal).

For my oil painting, I intend to present it my hanging it from rope/wires, against a background made from a large piece of white paper, and black paint. The background will express all things consumerism, waste and weather - patterns, shapes, textures, space as well.
